Three charities were shortlisted and the girls presented their nominated charity in assembly at Spencer House. All three presentations were excellent, but the charity that won the most votes was Storybook Dads, nominated by Isabella S. Isabella’s presentation was both informative and moving; she touched the hearts of all those present. Isabella told all the girls and staff at Wilberforce House about this charity in assembly last week.
Storybook Dads help parents in prison to record bedtime stories and messages for their children on CD or DVD. For many families, these story discs are the only communication there is between the children and their dads. Isabella told us that by donating £10 a child can receive a CD recording of their parent reading a story, a £20 donation means that a child can see their parent reading them a story on a DVD and a £50 donation means that an imprisoned parent can take part in a creative workshop to make a personalised gift, such as a pop-up book, a calendar or comic for their child.
