On the evening of Saturday 23rd November, Mrs Brown and the Chamber Choir performed beautifully at a special celebration to mark the centenary of Benjamin Britten, acknowledged internationally as one of the foremost composers of the 20th Century. It was particularly pertinent as the concert, held in the picturesque setting of St Mary’s Church, Beddington, was staged during Britten’s birthday weekend. The girls performed Friday Afternoons which they also performed on the previous Friday afternoon along with other children all around the country as part of the celebrations of Britten’s life and work.
Our Chamber Choir sang at St Mary’s as part of a concert showcasing the talents of other wonderful performers, including organist Karl Dorman; The St Mary’s Singers, directed by Pam Akhurst; harpist Louisa Duggart, and the St Mary’s Choir. Our girls had been practising their segment for many weeks, and did the school proud by performing exceptionally well on the night. Very well done to all members of our Chamber Choir, each of which had solos or group ensembles, and sounded beautiful. Thanks to Mrs Brown on another fantastic musical celebration, and to all the Chamber Choir girls.
