It was fitting that on St Cecilia’s Day (the patron saint of music), our Chamber Choir travelled to Salisbury Cathedral, one of the country’s most finest medieval cathedrals, to sing with the girl choristers of the Cathedral and choirs from other schools in a service of Remembrance to mark the anniversary of the start of World War I. The service, which was held under the auspices of the Royal School of Church Music, included hymns with descants, responses and several anthems, notably a setting of the poem “We will remember them”. The girls also read passages from the Old Testament beautifully, and were able to enjoy the playing of the grand cathedral organ. Salisbury Cathedral is the first cathedral to have established a programme for girl choristers, so the Study girls were very happy and proud to be a part of this wonderful Remembrance event.
