Year 5 girls attended a French language immersion day at the Institut Français in South Kensington on the theme “Waiting for Christmas”.
About half of the girls went to the Bibliothèque Quentin Blake, a special French language and bilingual library which is part of the Institut Français, where a classic French rhyming tale about Christmas and winter was used as the basis for their language learning. Meanwhile the other half of the girls attended an intensive language workshop all about Christmas in France.
After lunch the girls were treated to their very own private screening in the Institut’s Ciné Lumière of four short animated films in French entitled Ernest & Celestine in Winter. The films were adapted from the series of classic Francophone children’s books, Ernest et Célestine written and painted by the Belgium author Gabrielle Vincent. It was a fantastic trip and the girls enjoyed their taste of French culture.
