The lucky Year 5 girls enjoyed a long weekend away on a fun and informative trip to not only hone their French language skills, but to perform music for a local French audience! With a full itinerary that made the most of the long weekend away, and which included a myriad of activities, cultural learning and language practise, the girls had a wonderful time. The girls travelled by ferry and coach to their destination, and were thrilled with the experience of visiting and sampling some delicious treats at a local chocolate factory in Beussent before they arrived at their destination for the weekend, Boulogne-sur-Mer. After a delicious dinner of fresh fish and chips, the girls enjoyed some evening games and a music rehearsal before retiring for the night.
Sunday was just as full, with shopping in Le Touquet, and seeing all the gorgeous foods, cheeses, fruits and other delicacies on offer. After a light lunch the girls walked to the famous La Canche Lighthouse, where the intrepid explorers walked up 274 steps to arrive at the top to enjoy the splendid views of the sea and the surrounding area. The highlight of the trip was certainly the amazing performance the girls put on at the local church, the Eglise Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc du Touquet, where, in front of a large audience, the Study girls shone with performances of traditional French songs, renditions from Mary Poppins, and solo instrumentalist pieces. After the very well received performance, the girls let off steam at the local beach, enjoying the fresh breeze and running along the sand. On the last day, the girls packed up and the coach took them to the Nausicaa Sealife Centre in Boulogne Sur Mer, and the girls enjoyed seeing sea life including stingrays, sea lions and penguins.
The trip was a fantastic success and a lovely experience for the girls who not only brushed up on their French language skills, but also showed great responsibility and kindness towards each other. We thank Mrs Martinez who arranged the trip, as well as the team of staff that accompanied the girls – thanks to Mrs Brown, Ms Muir, Mr Baalham and Dr Sarkany all of whom played a huge part in making the trip such a memorable and happy time for the girls.
