On Tuesday evening the team responsible for our new bright, spacious and inspiring building at Wilberforce House were welcomed to a small drinks reception, to belatedly mark its grand opening earlier this year.
The Board of Governors were joined by former Head Mrs Pepper, Nicholas Hare Architects, the MCS Construction Team and Staff from past and present, who all played a part in the success of the project.
The evening commenced with John Tucker, Chair of Governors and Miss Ellis, Head taking the opportunity to pay tribute to both Susan Pepper's vision, courage and leadership in driving the project forward over seven years. A plaque officially naming the new hall the 'Susan Pepper Performing Arts Hall' was unveiled, as a tribute to Mrs Pepper.
Mrs Pepper then spoke about the wonderful highs and challenging lows of the project and celebrated the input and hard work of everyone who had gathered together, sharing that: "Great things are never done by one person but by a team of people".
Special mention was made to Simon Pole, Buildings Governor, whose skilled architectural eye and input as a Structural Engineer and Building Surveyor ensured the building was formed as we see it today. The event also marked Simon's last as a Governor as he steps down following 13 years of service.
Guests were invited to tour the new facilities, including the performing arts hall, spacious library and the six bright and airy classrooms that generations of Study girls will now get to enjoy.
