Today it is a year since Jane Davis, our former Admissions Secretary, died peacefully at home. This is the first opportunity that we have had to come together as a school community to remember her.
Jane had worked at The Study since November 1993 and her death has been a big loss to the school community. She was much loved by parents, girls and staff.
This morning, Miss Gay held a special assembly for girls and staff from the new library in Wilberforce House that has been named 'The Jane Davis Library'.
The entire school dressed in bright, sparkly colours and red, which was a particular favourite colour of Jane’s.
Sunflowers were Jane's favourite flower and each class across the school painted two pots to sow sunflower seeds in, to add to 'Jane’s Sunflower Garden'. We look forward to seeing the garden flourish throughout the summer.
We also held a collection for one of Jane's favourite charities, The Little Princess Trust. This is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
Our Deputy Head, Miss Gay, said of Jane, "Jane was such a positive role model in all our lives, always cheerful and always putting the needs of others before her own. Jane would want us to remember her and smile, and that is the theme of our assembly today."
This evening, there will be a special Zoom to remember Jane. Jane's sons will join us in the library to unveil the new plaque and Mrs Pepper, our former Head, will say a few words. We will be joined virtually by members across the school community.
We remember Jane and smile today, as that is what she would have wanted.
