Year 5 had a fantastic day last week when they were visited by Clare and Tony from the Mary Rose Trust in Portsmouth. They were told all about the history of the Mary Rose, how it was sunk during the Battle of the Solent, and then was raised again, over four hundred years later, and restored. They learnt how the thousands of artefacts that were uncovered have given historians and archaeologists a valuable insight into the lives of those who lived and worked on board the Tudor warship.
The girls learnt about the various jobs on board the ship, the clothes worn by officers and men, the food they ate, the games they played and the weapons and instruments they used. It was a hugely interesting and memorable day.
