One of the highlights of the Wimbledon calendar is the annual Wimbledon Bookfest, a celebration of books, authors and all things literary. The Study girls were lucky enough to attend two fantastic author events this year – a talk by bestselling writer Michelle Paver, who is a Study old girl herself, and also a talk from writer, poet and performer Michael Rosen.
Michelle Paver celebrated the 10th anniversary of the publication of her book Wolf Brother. She spoke about her terrifying encounter with a bear and how she likes to do first hand research for all her books rather than use the internet. She has been all over the world and had many interesting experiences to help her write her novels. The Year 5 and 6 girls were fascinated by her talk and had many questions to ask about both her series of books, The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness and Gods and Warriors.
Year 3 and Year 4 girls were entertained by Michael Rosen who recited some of his poems and talked about his life and his writing. He recited many of his poems, memorably Chocolate Cake. He kept the girls giggling for the whole hour, especially when he said the Bookfest tent could blow away in the storm and we may find ourselves floating over Putney! It was a wonderful humorous talk for our children!

In Year 3C last week we had the opportunity not only to study the poetry of Michael Rosen, but to hear him speak at the Wimbledon Bookfest. He had the girls in fits of laughter as he acted out his poems and inspired us all to present a most enjoyable assembly. The girls acted out poems from Michael Rosen and they used the most wonderful acting, expression and presentation skills to entertain the audience. We sang some Michael Rosen songs and our favourite song ‘I Love to do my Homework’ made everyone laugh. The girls ended their assembly with a dance ‘I Love to Move it’ which was so much fun and left us all feeling cheerful and proud of our efforts.
