Arts Council England has awarded The Study Artsmark Gold twice, and we are proud to continue to push the boundaries of creativity in all our endeavours. For the first time this year, four of our Year 6 girls have embarked on a special award for creativity, the Arts Award, Bronze level. This is open to 11 – 25 year olds all over the country, and the aim is to complete an in-depth project that taps into a specific creative interest or talent and to share this skill with others.
We are delighted that Alexandra A, Maddie B, Maya L and Lara S in Year 6 have now handed in their wonderful projects to be assessed by Arts Council England.
Alexandra A chose to showcase her talent in music by highlighting her role in the school production of “The Sound of Music, and in visual art she used the recent Geoff Hunt watercolour workshop as the basis for her project. She produced some wonderful marine art and also shared her skills by teaching her friends how to use watercolour paint to achieve effective results.
Maddie B loves music and is an accomplished instrumentalist, having performed at many school concerts and events throughout her time at The Study. Her project was inspired by Peter Moore, a talented trombonist and young Musician of the Year. Maddie shared her skills by teaching her father how to play the clarinet.
Maya L is a talented vocalist and performer and used her role as Maria in The Study’s production of “The Sound of Music” as the springboard for her in-depth project. Her inspirations are Julie Andrews and Taylor Swift, and she went to a Taylor Swift concert to glean inspiration for her work. She shared her skills by teaching a friend how to play a piece on the guitar.
Lara S is very interested in comedy acting and scriptwriting. Her inspirations are Harry Hill, Miranda Hart and Keith Lemon. Lara went to see the spoof of the X Factor “I Can’t Sing” and then wrote, directed and filmed her own spoof of the hit TV series “The Great British Bake-off”. She also designed some zany postcards featuring funny baked goods cartoons which will be sold for charity. She shared her musical skills by teaching two of her friends to play a piece on the harp, as she played the harp on the soundtrack of her short film.
